In heraldry, a line which is drawn embattled is made up of a series of square projections, and looks like the battlements of a castle.
On any two-edged ordinary with a horizontal component, (fess, chevron and bend), only the chiefmost line is embattled. If one wishes embattling on both the chiefmost and basemost lines, then the ordinary is blazoned embattled counterembattled.
