The Kingdom Event Tithe is a new surcharge instituted in the Kingdom of Ealdormere as of 1 January 2009.
At each event, all attendees are charged an additional dollar over and above site fees and non-member surcharges. This dollar goes directly to the Kingdom coffers for the support of Kingdom operations.
The practical effect of this tithe is to generate hundreds of dollars of needed Kingdom revenue with every event, regardless of whether or not the event itself is profitable.
The passing of the Kingdom Event Tithe was a matter of some controversy, particularly over the use of the word "tithe", which many felt was inaccurate. Other terms, such as "toll" or "tax" were suggested but Privy Council wished to keep to a more "medieval-sounding" phrase.
Similar charges are used in some other Kingdoms.
