Gregorian Chant is a chant repertory of over 3,000 liturgical melodies. Its assembly is traditionally credited to Pope Gregory the Great, although it was probably the work of several generations.
In 752 Pepin decreed that Gregorian Chant be introduced in France.
Gregorian Chant is monophonic, and its modal melodies avoid large leaps. The overall structure lacks regularity, nor is there generally a regular accent in the text.
