The branle Single is found in Orchesography by Thoinot Arbeau. It is one of the quatre branles.

Steps Used

Choreography

As with all branles, this dance is performed in a line of people holding hands or, if enough people are present, a circle. It is not necessary for the dancers to be paired into partners.

This is the second easiest dance in the world.

Variations

In place of the single right, one may do three quick kicks: pied en l'air gauche, pied en l'air droit, pied en l'air gauche. This is a division or decoupement. Presumably other divisions would also have been done, as in the Double Branle
