Sir Gawain is one of King Arthur's knights of the Round Table. He has appeared in a number of period tales, particularly Sir Gawain and the Green Knight which was translated by J.R.R. Tolkien from its original Middle English.

Gawain is often romantically seen as a paragon of the knightly virtues.
