  • One hut is a hut
  • Two or more huts are probably a farm or a factory
  • Two or more huts may also be a settlement.
  • At a point indefinite, a settlement becomes a hamlet
  • Once a hamlet has grown a little larger it becomes a village, which is the basic level of urban organisation recognised by most 20th Century authorities.

A village may also be a thorp, or a wick, or several other local cognomina.
