A vegetable is a plant of which some part other than the fruit may be eaten. For instance the stalk from celery, the root a carrot or turnip and the leaves of lettuce. Sometimes plants where only the fruit is eaten are also commonly classed as vegetables, such as zucchini or pumpkin.
