Note apart from original author: There are in fact 2 period examples in rapier plates which demonstrate the use of a mail gauntlet to protect the off-hand.
It would be a good idea to name these examples. Mail gloves are different from butcher's gloves in that they are a modern, welded, stainless steel version with very small, thin rings. --User 144 00:47, 14 October 2007 (EST)
