I've seen claims of Brussels Sprout origin as early as mid-1500's, but so far no documented sources. I'll keep looking --Elyas

Most reliable sources I have seen agree that they were bred in the 18th century. A friend of mine said he used them in a feast as a substitute for miniature cabbages, but that is a different kettle of brassicas. Conrad Leviston 01:20, 15 Jun 2005 (CDT)
