Sugar is a white crystalline solid that is commonly used as a sweetener in food production, and as an additive is drinks such as tea and coffee.

The medieval price of sugar varied: generally, it was quite expensive. Honey was a viable alternative sweetener for many dishes. Sugar was also believed to be excellent for invalids.

Production

Sugar is made from sugar cane by a refining process.

The major sugar producing countries are countries with warm climates, such as Australia, Brazil, and Thailand.
