The strawberry (genus Fragaria) is a fruit related to the rose. In period Europe strawberries were a small-fruited species, fragaria vesca, now referred to as wild strawberry or fraise des bois. Most strawberries available in modern times are hybrids with New World ancestors, many of which are much larger (and sometimes much blander) than period strawberries.

In the SCA, a coronet with strawberry leaves indicates a Duke or a Duchess.
