St Augustine was the eldest son of St Monica. He was born in 354 AD in Tagaste (part of modern Algeria) and died 75 years later in Hippo Regius, where he served as bishop. It is for the latter location that St Augustine is often referred to as Augustine of Hippo.

St.Augustine is best known for his writings, especially the work entitled "Confessions".

His feast day is the 28th of August.
