A Single is a dance step done in various Renaissance Dances and English Country Dances. In its basic form it is one step, done forward, backward, or sideward. The dancer may either pause after the step, or close the feet together by bringing the free foot over to a place next to the foot that took the step. What distinguishes a single from a step in a longer sequence is that the single tends not to flow with continuous action into the following step.
