The Saltarello is a dancing step, vastly used in Medieval and Renaissance dances, and it consists of the following routine of four beats:

Step,
step,
step,
jump on the foot of the third step

It starts with either foot, depending on the choreography of the dance you are dancing.

There is, however, disagreement as to when the jump takes place, although the majority of teachers place it on the fourth beat of the step.
