A rerebrace is a defence for the upper arm. It might be attached to the couter and vambrace to form an arm harness and this arrangement might be referred to as a vambrace. The first rerebraces appear in the early part of the 14th century.

A modern term for this piece of armour is the upper cannon of the vambrace
