In the SCA, the names, arms and badges of personas and branches can be registered with the College of Heralds. While they may be rejected by the College if they are not appropriate to be used within the Society (according to the rules of the College), such registration does ensure that no other persona or branch uses similar names or symbols.

Attendance registration is also commonly enforced at SCA events by the constables. Any fighter in a tournament will be required to register with the event's lists officers so as to have their combat authorisation confirmed.
