A Red Cross is one of the universally recognized emblems of the International Red Cross, an agency dedicated to providing neutral medical support. It is also universally recognized as a marker for medical supplies and aid.

Correctly blazoned Argent, a cross couped gules, the Red Cross is a restricted charge in SCA heraldry, and cannot be used in arms because of the risk of confusion with the real-world use of this device.

In the past, a similar symbol was used for the SCA chirurgeon officers but was changed to Gules, on a goutte argent a fleam gules due to the conflict with the I.R.C. symbol.
