Native Americans (also called the First Nations) are the indigenous peoples of the Americas. In the medieval period, these nations had flourishing neolithic cultures, but almost no contact with the European peoples.

The Norse first encountered Native Americans in Vinland (modern-day Newfoundland) and apparently came into conflict with the Beothuk nation, forcing a Viking withdrawal from the distant land.

The next known European contact with Native Americans occured in the Caribbean in 1492 when Christopher Columbus "discovered" the New World. The pattern that Columbus set, of rape, enslavement and disease would unfortunately be continued for centuries by the invading Europeans.

First Nations in the SCA

While there are many people of First Nations ancestry in the SCA, First Nations personas are not generally considered period.
