In 15th Century Italian Dance a movimento (also called a scosso) is performed by rising up onto the toes, and then sinking back down on to the flats of the feet. The descriptions of the step from primary sources are vague, and there may have been more to it than this. Some dancers use a movimento as space for improvisation. The step lasts for half a tempo, or the same amount of time as a sempio.
