A '''mew''' is a cage or building for [[hawk]]s and [[falcon]]s, especially when they are "mewing" (i.e. moulting their [[feather]]s). The [[England|English]] royal [[falconry|falconer]] is still called the [[Master]] of the Mews.

"The Mews" is the name of the [[London]] [[stable]]s which are built on the original site of the royal falconer's mews. From this was derived the term "mews" to refer to a set of stables or a street of buildings that were once stables.
