In heraldry a mascle is a subordinary in the shape of a voided lozenge.

A pattern laid over the field, masculy is similar to fretty, but while the latter is an interlaced fretwork pattern, the former is a solid latticework pattern without interlacing. In period this very rare pattern was shown several different ways, however.
