The King is the current ruler of a Kingdom. Victory in the Crown tournament is necessary before becoming king, except in exceptional circumstances. A King is referred to as Your Majesty, or Your Royal Majesty, and is permitted to use the arms of the Kingdom, the Royal crown etc. only for as long as they are reigning.
