The Iron Age was the period in which iron was the primary metal used in tools and weapons, typically dated in Europe from about the 8th century B.C.E. The medieval period of European history fell almost entirely within the Iron Age.

The European Iron Age is generally (although not universally) considered by academics to end at the Renaissance.
