Replica Viking sword hilts.

The hilt of a weapon is the section that is used to hold the item. The term is most frequently applied to knives and swords and in general usage refers to the entire furniture of the sword (crossguard, grip and pommel).

Hilts are generally made of wood, antler or bone and may have a leather covering. They may be shaped to better fit the hand and some may be carved for decorative purposes.
