A gonfalon or gonfannon is a type of triple flag that hangs down from a crosspiece. SCAdians often erroneously call it a banner.
When used as a heraldic charge, a gonfalon is displayed face-on with the lower half being divided into three parts, hanging from three rings. It is correctly blazoned by metal tincture or fur and can be described as "fringed" if there is trim of a different colour.
Sir Bedivere of the Round Table was attributed the arms OR, a gonfalon gules fringed argent.
