The Herball or General Historie of Plants by John Gerard, or Gerard's Herbal as it is more commonly known, is the best known of the 16th century herbals. It was first printed in 1597. It contains detailed drawings of each of the plants, including the roots, which were taken from the woodcuts of Jacob Dietrich.
