nozelac In the context of SCA combat, edging usually refers to the protective covering around the edges of their shields.

It is often black poly pipe cut longways and tied in place, but can be anything as long as it makes the edge less sharp.

Edging is refered to as a rim on re-enactment shields. These are frequently made from leather or rawhide but some are made from metals such as tin or brass, when appropriate.
