Earl Marshal

As well as being the King's Marshal, in charge of the the summoning of the feudal army in England, the Earl Marshal also became the final authority on matters of heraldry and, when the English College of Arms was established, its head. Prior to this there had been Kings of Arms, with no one expressly senior.
