China is a large place in the 'far east'. China was first united from many city-states under the Qin Dynasty in the 2nd century BC. In period, China was under imperial rule under an Emperor.
Being on the other end of the Silk Road it was important to Western Europe as the source of silk although there was very little direct interaction.
