Art, for most of period, was something that only the rich were involved in to any great extent. This is not unlike the restricted access to education in period.

Art itself is most aptly described as "3 bicycles, a toilet, and a metal flower in a wheelbarrow, all cast in bronze" - apparently 'form with no useful purpose' - for example a spoon can be deemed 'art' but is also a tool.
