The Praise of Folly was one of Erasmus' great works. Written in the form of a letter to his friend Thomas More, Chancellor of Henry VIII, it exposes the behavior of the ruling classes and church dignitaries of the day.

It was works such as this which raised the issue of corruption within the catholic church and lead in turn to the events which became known as the Reformation.
