One who plays music (although generally a composer will also play, just to hear what the result sounds like).

There is some scope for discussion as to whether or not to extend the term to the (ab)users of certain instruments, among them the basic drum, the not-entirely-non-semitic-persons'-harp, and the bagpipe.
