Is it worth pointing out that, in practice, there are two furs: Ermine (made from or designed to look like dead weasel, with black feet on a white background) and Vair (made from/looks like dead squirrel, in two colours, to represent light falling with and against the nap) and that all the others are recolourings of these or geometric variations? Thus one has weasels with red feet; and the dead squirrels are tiled together in different patterns.
