A stringed instrument, played primarily with a bow, probably the forerunner of the violin. The body of the rebec is roughly pear-shaped, carved from a solid piece of wood. It seems that most rebecs were made by the musicians who made them.

The Rebec Page includes working drawings to construct an instrument.
