An adze is a wood working tool that has a striaight or convexly curved blade mounted transverslely to its wooden shaft and with the blade angled 90 degrees to the direction of the shaft.
It is used to shape the face of wooden objects typically to hollow them out.
A common tool until relatively recently in history, a typical person wood not be able to make the distinction between an adze and a hoe.
