Does anyone have a reference for the red, green & black candle claim? Morgant 10:42 23 Jul 2003 (EST)

Tiff: Searching for that (something I read on email somewhere second hand - based on illustrations of coloured candles, which I think I saw some of the pictures of , but can't locate it again.<sigh>), I found a recepie for a yellow candle coloured with Turmerick on stefan's floregium: (about halfway down - search for Turmerick. Yes I see it's from 1609.) http://www.florilegium.org/files/HOME/candles-msg.html

Since having nice pure (whiter) beeswax candles rather than (smelly yellower) tallow candles was a mark of your wealth, probably off-white beeswax candles were the fashion most of the time.
