Is there any evidence of the use of bayonets in period ?? -- Simoncursitor 04:02, 8 Feb 2006 (CST)

As I understand it the bayonet was introduced in 1647 in response to the need to defend musketeers against cavalry as the pike block became scarcer. At the beginning of the 17th C there was no need for bayonets as pikes were still in vogue. --User 144 04:25, 8 Feb 2006 (CST)
