Please note that 'Cloth of Gold' is not made from gold but was made from fibres obtained from a shellfish related to the culinary moule.

A lot of people say that, but I'll leave it to someone better qualified than me to refute: http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0103&L=SCA-GARB&P=R12562&D=0&I=-3&T=0

what I can prove is the existance of very nice samites woven with gold thread. I think this needs to be on the page, even if part of the period did use 'cloth of gold' to refer to shellfish fabric.Tiff
