Christopher Columbus, (Spanish: Crist�bal Col�n, Italian: Cristoforo Colombo), (1451 - May 20, 1506) was (probably) a Genoese explorer and trader, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean and reached the Americas in 1492 under the flag of Castile (Spain). He had been searching for a new route to the Asian Indies and was convinced he had found it. Columbus was made governor of the new territories and made several more journeys across the Atlantic.
