Rue

A hardy, evergreen plant native to Southern Europe, growing best in a dry, sheltered position. Originally it was used to defend against witches and magic, but is now used as an inesect repellant, and to relieve headaches and sciatica by bruising the fresh leaves and rubbing them against the skin. If used excessively, it is an acro-narcotic poison, and causes vomiting. It is well noted for its pungent smell.
