A minstrel could mean a professional entertainer of one of various types (e.g. juggler or acrobat) and was also used to describe professional musicians specifically. Mintstrelry includes an amount of comedy in all their pieces.
Minstrels in the SCA
In the SCA, a minstrel is usually any performer of music.
