&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;I feel that the comment that the rapier became useful on the battlefield in the early 17th C is a bit of a stretch. The ECW did not see their use in battle (the basket hilted sword and hanger were used instead). Any evidence to support the statement?&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
