New page

'''Double-face weave''' is a [[tablet weaving]] technique that allows decorative patterns to appear on both sides of the tablet-woven band.

It works by threading each tablet with two different colours. To weave, the tablets are first turned alternatively forward, then back to produce a smoothly-coloured weave on each side of the band (one colour will show on the top, and the other on the bottom).

When the patterning is required, the individual tablets are then turned in the opposite direction to all the other cards (back when the others are forward or vice versa). This causes the alternative colours to be swapped to the other side of the band and thus to contrast with the smoothly-patterned section. Because the colours are being swapped with each other, the pattern will show up on both faces of the band - thus the pattern is "double-faced".
