SCA commanders can be in charge of the [[logistics]] of getting their troops to the [[war]] and [[armour-up|armoured-up]] for the [[battlefield]], but mostly they merely command the troops on the field itself. Moving large [[formation|formations]] of infantry in unison is a difficult task for any [[commander]].

It is interesting that the title of [[Duke]] comes from the [[Latin]] ''Dux'', which means, simply, ''commander''.
