In the context of [[SCA]] [[combat]], ''edging'' usually refers to the protective covering around the edges of their [[shield]]s.

It is often black poly pipe cut longways and tied in place, but can be anything as long as it makes the edge less sharp.

Edging is refered to as a ''rim'' on [[re-enactment]] [[shield]]s. These are frequently made from [[leather]] or [[rawhide]] but some are made from [[metal]]s such as [[tin]] or [[brass]], when appropriate.
