The [[Catholic church|Roman]] method for calculating the date to Easter is to set Easter Sunday as the first Sunday after the first full moon after the 
autumnal equinox. Although this is now the accepted method of 
calculating Easter, the [[Celtic church]] had a different method. This 
however ran into problems as Easter would occasionally fall during 
[[Lent]], which was a period of [[fasting]]. In [[England]], the [[Wikipedia:Synod of Whitby|Synod of Whitby]] in 663 resolved the dating issue in the favour of the Romans, which had an influence on the control of Christianity in England.
