Drinking [[alcohol]] was a common practise during the [[Middle Ages]] partially because of the alcohol reducing the danger of drinking fluids potentially contaminated with germs.

Whilst alcohol is not a compulsory part of recreationist events, it is a common one.

It should be noted that most, if not all, recreationist groups forbid people to fight if they have partaken of alcohol.
