The <b>mark</b> was, according to <i>Wikipedia</i>, an English unit of account, rather than a coin as such.  Introduced by the Danes, probably around the 10th century CE, it was originally worth one hundred pence.  Later, after the [[Norman]] [[Norman Conquest|Conquest]] it was revalued at 160 pence, two-thirds of a [[pound]] [[sterling]]
