A '''bell''' is both a [[musical instrument]] (percussion) and an element in [[Christian]] liturgy.

The bell is composed of a body (usually either rectangular or globular) and a clapped, suspended within the body.  As the bell is moved, the clapper strikes the body, making sound.  Bells are generally metal, either beaten into shape around a mould or cast in a bell-'''foundry'''.

Most Christian [[church]]es have bells, both to call the faithful to prayer, and to toll out events, such as a national triumph or the death of a notable local.  Bells are used in music, and can also be sewn to people's clothes, to chime as they move.  Bells were (and are) frequently attached to [[animal]]s' necks, in order that they can be found (or, in the case of a predatory [[cat]], to warn potential prey of its appraoch).
