The '''Moors''' were another name for the [[Muslim]] invaders of (successively) the Northern coast of [[Africa]], the [[Spain|Spanish]] peninsula and southern [[France]].  They were also known as [[Saracens]].

Geomorphically, ''moors'' are extensive undulating areas of marginal fertility, generally at raised altitudes, which dominate much of the north of [[England]], especially over the Pennine ridge.  They were slowly colonised in [[period]], usually up river valleys, and founded a deal of the [[sheep]] industry of England.
